mtb Rode the trail CCW from shadow bay. Entire loop. About 90 trees down. Asked for permission to clear and was told the trail is closed. That said the Willamette site says trail is open only that the trailhead is closed. There are several trailheads. The only work happening currently is fire staging (minimal) for mopup operations north of Waldo. Those crews are nowhere near the trail. One guy came to chat with us as we stopped for a snack. He just said no camping but didn’t care or know anything about trails. Dryview

mtb Rode the full loop after a thunderstorm for a sunset ride on the west shore and in the dark on the way back to shadow bay. Between black creek trail and salmon creek trail there were probably 100 down trees. Still enjoyable if you’re not soft. Around the salmon creek trail I ran into where the fs guys were camped and cutting. From there on it was golden. I would be on the north end during working hours as theirs some big work being done with machinery and tree clearing still. Idealview

mtb Heartbreaking report... Neither trail is marked closed by the FOREST CIRCUS. There is an excess of 400 trees blocking the trail with most down within the western burn area. I'm not exaggerating on the number of trees. As I started the ride from shadow bay road clockwise, I was excited to see the first 2 miles of the trail was cleared recently but only to the south shelter. A trail that normally take 3hrs on avg to ride, took me close to 5hrs due to hopping hundreds of trees and thousands of branches and debris in the trail. The trail is blocked at the N. campground, not accessible to continue. It's not worth attempting to ride the trail anytime soon, unless the USFS gets this place cleaned up. Such a beautiful iconic place that has been destroyed by fire the USFS management. Saddened to see this! Very Dryview

mtb Four trees are down, blocking the trail in the NW burn area. Soil erosion is extreme in the burn, with many exposed roots. One big boulder slid into the trail in the NW area. Dryview

mtb 5 trees down, from shadow bay road to south shelter. Rest of way to N Campground, is clear but extremely rutted from burn, has worsened over winter. Trail is overgrown in many spots. On south and western slope. This trail need some love. Glad is is open, but thinning is needed! From N Campground to shadow bay road has a couple trees down, but riding nice ! Very Dryview

mtb Thank you!!! to the Peeps that cleared the trees around the JW loop. The trail is CLEAR & rideable including the burnt NW section. Although very CRISPY and bumpy in the NW part. The old burn hasn't changed, with the exception all the wood that was left from the previous fire is now burnt. Good news, the trail is not dead and has come back to life! Please get out and ride it, need tracks on the burnt area to smooth it out! Very Dryview

mtb Bring a chain saw!!! Lots of trees/logs/branches down, on and off bike every few hundred yards. Still a bit of patchy snow around the south and west sides of lake. Clockwise from Shadow cove not recommended. North and east side of lake rode well. Skeeters are treacherous! plan for 3.5-4 hours. Variableview
