Salida Mountain Trails (SMT) made major improvements to Dead Bird and Lost in late 2021 to create a better up/down loop while retaining the old-school character of both trails. Minor reroutes to Dead Bird nixed a few flow-killing cruxes, making for a more comfortable climb. Reroutes to Lost dramatically improved sustainability (much of the trail was fall line, and prone to washouts) while adding fun features and berms.

      This is a black trail. Like others have said, the skill required is more blue, but the steep and loose, and tight design of the trail would ruin a lot of “blue” rider’s days. Racetrack is a suitable alternate descent back to the parking lot.

      Super fun! This is definitely a black trail though. Blue skills are really all you need but the tight and steep slalom-y switchbacks with a bit of exposure would intimidate most intermediate riders. If you’re looking for something more blue, Solstice and the Sol Trains are more your thing. That being said, as an advanced rider, I enjoy all of them! Lost and Solstice are my faves. Ear to ear grins will be had! Also, get out earlier than you think you need to—this area can get pretty toasty.

      Love Rollercoaster! I'm just a trail guy on a 130 mm bike passing through but this trail is a rush. Great design and build, very impressive. Just wish I could ride UP it on my dirt bike.
