Lower Dan's Details
Official multi-use bidirectional gravel trail. The trail is open year-round to bikes as well as equestrian and pedestrian traffic. Bikes are required by OSU to yield to all other users.
One of the longest continuous trails in the McDonald Forest system when combined with the upper sections. When coming off of Dimple Hill and heading towards Chip Ross Park, this segment is predominantly a climb up and around a ridge and through a power line clear cut. Be aware of other trail users potentially behind every blind corner. Both this and Horse Trail can be crowded.
Trail is often covered with wet, decomposing, crushed organic slurry that make it sloppy to ride in winter, but the gravel tread will hold up to the abuse and your tires will do no harm to anything other than making you and your bike a mess.
The top of this trail starts at the bottom of Middle Dan's. Access both ends of this trail from different parts of the 612 road. Additional gravel connectors lead off this trail to Chip Ross Park and to Jackson Creek Drive, providing connectivity to the bottom of Lower Horse.
