Middle Dan's Details
Official multi-use bidirectional gravel trail. The trail is open year-round to bikes as well as equestrian and pedestrian traffic. Bikes are required by OSU to yield to all other users.
One of the longest continuous trails in the McDonald Forest system when combined with its upper and lower counterparts. This section descends through a few straight-line gravel legs to a bridge across Jackson Creek, followed by a short climb and then a traverse through pear and apple trees before reaching the lower segment. Be aware of other trail users potentially behind every blind corner. Both this and Horse Trail can be crowded.
Trail is often covered with wet, decomposing, crushed organic slurry that make it sloppy to ride in winter, but the gravel tread will hold up to the abuse and your tires will do no harm to anything other than making you and your bike a mess. Also the bridge can be slippery.
