This trail is extremely difficult because of its percent grade during the climb. The climb has no technical features to navigate. The ascent is on a well cleared trail. Roots, rocks, and bushes are almost non-existent during the ascent. You can ascend this trail in either direction but the direction given on TrailForks is the best. Bug juice may come in handy for some people. Water on ride is basically non-existent. There is a stream at the beginning of the ride and end of ride. So if you're taking a dog make sure you carry a little extra water. For the ride up, you basically cover 3,200 ft in 3 miles. This first climb will take you to an area called Jim's Junction which is not the top. You will still have another 2.3 miles and about 1,500 ft of climbing to do before you reach Mount Muller. Like I stated above this is an extremely difficult climb. The trail does become a little more covered with bushes as you reach the top and just beyond the top. The descent down is not technical or hard. There are a few very short climbs on the way down which may bump up the total ascent for the day to 5,000 ft. The trail dumps out onto a paved bike path which takes you back to the trail head. Over all this trail is not technically challenging but does provide and extremely grueling climb.

The trail head is 45 minutes past Port Angeles. If you're coming from Seattle expect about 3.5 hours of driving.
