Main access road into the Akatarawa Forest from the Maungakotukutuku entrance.
From 50m southeast of the Kapiti Four x 4 Adventure building, head across the creek and up the road to a metal gate.
The road intially climbs up at a gradient of about 15%, but for less than 0.2km. Thereafter, it drops slighly and then climbs at a more-or-less constant 10% for just over 2km. After that, there is a series of rolling hills, which eventually lead to the ridgeline. Just over 1km from the top, there is a truss bridge over a deep tree-filled ravine, the climb up from the bridge is also at about 15%, but it is only short.
Along the way, there are over a dozen intersections with a quad bike track that is interwoven with the road, so watch out for quad bikes and motocross bikes emerging from either side of the road.
The northern end is next to Kapiti Four x 4 Adventure on Maungakotukutuku Road. Southern end meets Titi Road on the ridgeline.
