An unsanctioned old school all mountain trail with minimal flow and lots of technical challenges and a few superb viewpoints. Best ridden with a new-school AM bike. Some excellent open ridge portions with sparse vegetation and lots of fun on the rocks. Riding it south to north will put you in the extreme north end of Mt Work park and far from everything else. This trail is beyond the Hartland Bike Park boundary. It is unsanctioned. It is not maintained by the local bike society, the South Island Mountain Bike Society (SIMBS).

Access Info

Access from the south via North Ridge and Breathless with a short 50m walk/ride traverse of the Mt. Work hiking trail until the left (north) turn towards Bubble Wrap proper. Exit at the north end also involves riding/walking a short section of the Mt. Work trail. Look out for hikers and be nice.

This trail is unsanctioned, use at your own risk!

Happy New Year! Had a great ride on Bubble Wrap today, trail is mostly clear still a bit of snow at top but very ride-able. Cleared a lot of Arbutus branches but there is a large tree down across the trail towards the end.

This trail was a big disappointment and doesn’t deserve the 4 star rating in my opinion. The fun features are few and far between, and the rest is either boring or too technical, with a lot of odd and pointless uphill sections. Zero flow and poor use of the terrain. Leave it to the hikers hikers.

"odd and pointless uphill sections" are pretty common on Victoria trails. What local trails do you like?

"too technical" and "zero flow" don't belong in the same review. If you're good enough to clean the tech, you'd be able to flow this trail.

Swipe right, Snakes, Torpedo, Skull, Sofa, Fun, Jelly....I'm sure you get the point... Did I say I couldn't clean it?

I'm simply stating my opinion, so I'm sure why are you getting defensive?

I maintain and cut trails similar to this so I’m curious about the tastes of those who don’t like them. Helps me do better work. Knowing what trails you do like is a useful reference as people’s opinions about what is “too technical” or “lacks flow” vary widely.

      Happy trails.

Perhaps I misinterpreted your original response, so I apologize if that is the case. In my teens and early twenties I built dozens of trails in Terrace, many of which are still used today, and I would love to get back into building here. The terrain all along that side of the mountain has massive potential for long sustained DH line that would be more in line with “modern” trail standards. I’d be happy to discuss further via DM if you like.

I have to disagree with the last review. This is a great trail. Sure, it starts with a lot of traversing and a handful of very tricky uphill bits, but it's worth it for the views and the downhill payoff. The last half of the trail is a sustained, fun and pretty technical downhill.

Not every trail needs to be a flowy sea of golden dirt. It's not about "modern trail standards", just sounds like personal preference to me.
