We rode this trail as a loop starting at the Katka TH and riding the road up to the Clifty TH. The road is definitely a grind (13 mi, 4000 vert). Highly recommend climbing up the Clifty Spur Trail. The views are amazing looking north into Canada up the Purcell Trench, west toward the Selkirk Crest and south into the Cabinets. The Spur Trail DH was the highlight of the ride. The ridge trail is punctuated by steep, fun, technical descents and short, steep hike-a-bikes. The DH from Katka is fast, steep, and narrow. Good for getting back to the car quickly but not the payoff I was hoping for.

Regarding access to the TH... we drove in Twenty Mile RD and then along Boulder Creek RD to the Katka TH. I would not recommend the road past the turnoff to the Clifty TH as it was steep and rutted in areas. We made it ok in our Forester. Let's just say we saw a lot of side by sides and four wheelers while pedaling up. Take the road out of Bonners Ferry, it is paved most of the way and smooth gravel to the Katka TH.

Scratch that, the road climb is more like 2,500 vert.

We leave a vehicle at the boulder creek rd jct and shuttle to the trailhead. Then ride back to the BC jct, retrieve other car. We do the ride out last, not first.
