The section of this trail South of Family Man is getting replaced by a bypass road. This section is closed as of Sept. 7th 2022
Lower 8-Track is primarily a two-way cross-country mountain bike trail. There are natural trail features including: tree roots, uneven terrain, tight turn radii, off-camber turns, and short sections with steep inclines. This trail becomes progressively more challenging as you travel further from the Family Man Skills Development area. There are four separate sections worth noting; these separate sections junction other trails allowing progressively more challenging loop-ride opportunities for riders as their skills progress.
Those sections are:
(1) The portion of the trail located in and immediately adjacent to the Family Man area is appropriate for beginners in both directions. The trail provides easy sight-lines with trail surfaces that are reasonably wide and smooth. At higher speeds, the trail is engaging for skilled riders as well.
(2) The portion of the trail between the 1100 road and the #106 trail junction is more challenging due to steeper inclines and some exposed tree roots, however, it is appropriate for more confident beginner and intermediate riders;
(3) Between the junction of the #106 trail and the ‘Mix-Tap’ trail (#157), the trail becomes wide and level again. This section is appropriate for beginners; and
(4) Between the junction of the ‘Mix-Tap’ trail (#157) and the Eldorado Trail junction, the trail utilizes tighter and more varied terrain. This portion of the trail is for intermediate riders. There are steep inclines, tight turns, narrow trail surfaces and exposed tree roots. At speed, even advanced riders will be challenged by the varied terrain here going both directions.
Lower 8-Track connects with ‘The Boot’ and ‘Twin Peaks’ trails. Progressively more difficult loop-ride opportunities exist using the 1000 (Riordan) and 1100 roads (within Family Man), the #106 trail, the ‘Mix-Trap’ (#157) trail, and the ‘Eldorado’ trail (returning via ‘Baby GP’ & ‘7-Streams’ trails). One can also continue to higher elevations using ‘Upper 8-Track’ or on ‘Eldorado’ trails.
