The Pyramid trail is a newly adopted 1.2 mile trail that is primarily a north to south downhill direction connector trail. Very few riders ever ride/walk the trail in the south to north direction due to a very steep technical section in the middle of the trail. Much of the Pyramid trail is intermediate rated and could be ridden by an intermediate rider that doesn't mind walking about 200 yards of trail.

For advanced riders there is a steep narrow challenging downhil section of trail unlike any other trail in Sedona. The challenging section has short uneven rocky spots that take confidence to ride without dabbing or crashing. After the steep section the trail has a sharp left turn onto a trail section that use to be called Witch Doctor.

The old Witch Doctor section was adopted without any re-routes to give advanced riders some twisty, up down, off camber slick rock challenge to test their riding skills. There is a small fun 2' drop spot about 10% into the Witch Doctor section that you can take with significant speed. The drop spot comes shortly after a steep climbing section that a number of riders don't clean because of a lack of momentum.

After the short drop the trail climbs and drops though a narrow off camber section of trail where you eventually climb up to an off camber slickrock traverse. Due to the off camber nature of the traverse some riders tend to dab due to the uneven nature of the slickrock.

After passing through the old Witch Doctor section you end up on a fast up and down section of trail though an area that has lots of the Ocotillo plant. Ocotillo only grows in a south facing exposure and the last section of Pyramid is a perfect place for the plant to grow and sometimes catch your jersey.

Hopefully when you reach the Scorpion intersection you will have a smile on your face. From this point you can either ride Scorpion uphill back to the High School or down the Chavez paved rode to the Old Post trailhead. In the old days there use to be a connector single track trail over to the Old Post/Ramshead intersection. This old trail concept is being shown on the Western Gateway Trail proposal as option #15. If you get a chance and let the FS know you think the #15 trail concept (Scorpion to Old Post) would be a great idea.
