You can ride this loop in either direction but I'd recommend the clockwise direction to make the most of the tight downhill moto trails on the eastern side of the loop. Head down Martin Street and cross the Lerderderg (if the river is high - refer map and access from near bridge on Greendale Trentham Road). First is a bit of hike a bike just to get you out of the gorge but you're quickly back on the bike for a steep climb up Albo's Grunter and then across the to the (relatively) flatter Weekend Warrior and Sweet Nuggs loop. Head across to Mongrels - tip is to keep your speed up to roller coaster the hills. Onto Snakey and into the Yankee Mine area where you can have a look at the old shafts, boilers, etc. Climb Yankee Mine Track - a roughish fire trail - before the rapid descent down the MAGA trail before a steep climb back out. Follow the moto trail back to Blackwood via Shaws Lake area. Note there is a sharp turn in the moto trail off a short section of fire trail which is one of the better bits so keep an eye on Trail forks first time around. Bomb it down to the gorge area and then back into town. A reasonably hard ride requiring reasonable fitness but you can walk any bits you're not comfortable with or are too steep. A fit person should be able to ride the majority of it.
