Spoonhill is a downhill only trail (Please note: it is also a traditional walking track, so walkers are allowed). The first section is steep, slippery with difficult clay chutes (especially when wet), and gives you access the equally challenging McMillans and Scrims.

However, the first part can be substituted with 491 which is more of an all weather/faster track - and joins onto Spoonhill about halfway down (at a massive root ball) - the 491/Spoonhill combination is the option preferred by most riders.

The most common exit is to take the right onto Spexit (spoonhill-link). Or you can exit earlier at Nga Tuna . Both exits will take you on to the Wetland loop and back to the car park.

Access Info

Spoonhill is accessed at the finish of the Labyrinth climb or the Towai Traverse decent.Alternatively you can ride the ECNZ 4x4 access road to the 3rd pylon to get to the start

Great if you like super deep, clay ruts and chutes in Top section, more expert for sure. Avoid and take 491
