Spoonhill is a downhill only trail which ends up in the playground just around the corner from the trail park entrances. The first section is slippery and very difficult (especially when wet). The first part can be substituted with 491 which is more of an all weather track - this is the option preferred by most riders.
It is pretty much all clay and is very slippery in the wet. And as a result of the slippery clay surface and excessive use of breaks, large ruts have formed towards the end of the ride. At the very end of the ride there are 2 options for getting down to the playground: straight down a steep slightly rutted chute or left down some heavily rutted switchbacks.
An alternative to completing all of Spoonhill is to take the right onto Nga Tuna which will take you on to the Wetland loop and back to the car park.

|Wet, but not overly muddy. Careful on the step shoot that drops you into the park at the end. The wet clay is like riding on ice at present.|
