This is typically ridden as a section of the 24 mile Tarbell Trail loop, but can also be an out and back from the summit of Larch Mountain to the Grouse Vista TH. The upper half down to the Grouse Creek bridge is a milder grade than the bottom half so some prefer to make that turn around point combining it with riding the Bear Grass trail or Cold Creek.

Access Info

Descend from the summit of Larch Mountain via the Bear Grass trail or climb from the Grouse Vista TH on the L1200 road.

I did the Tarbell Loop (clockwise) yesterday, and this trail was completely snowed in, I should have researched the elevation a bit more. Can’t wait to do the loop without a bike on my back in waist deep snow. Still a little snow on the top of Cold a Creek right after this trail, otherwise, amazing loop!

Why is this rated black? I rode it clockwise and it was a steep climb with a few things I didn't get over, but it seemed like it would be barely a blue to descend.

Also, the photos of those bridges look like they may be a different area?
