The trail coalition has done a lot of work on the section of the Peterson trail between the old homestead and where it connects inside the park. The far south section is basically a sand road that is horrible heading east and unrideable if you were to ride west. It is deep sand and uphill westerly.... it's bad. I would recommend riding the homestead trail connector and avoid the south part of Pederson unless you are a sadist It's nice other than the sand section because it is too far for the vast majority of hikers and horse people... you'll have it to yourself and it's arguably the best single track in the park.

 Large cactus down across trail between Toothaker and the Pirate's Connector. 2 mile east/west sand section has lots of soul draining washboard.

      Rode this today from the green dot going south. Some of the best singletrack in the park, the wash drop-ins are all fun and rideable. I then took Homestead NW to make it a loop, and the only sandy wash I had to walk was about 1/4 mile from the end, where it meets back up with Pederson. Homestead was fast and fun almost the whole way, didn't have to pedal much at all and made great time.

      The previous poster is talking about Gadsden trail. The reroute on that is awesome. The south side of Pederson is still a sandy mess not exactly fun on a mountain bike until you get all the way east.

      Pedersen in the wash has been recently completely reworked by the park staff. Nearly all of it is out of the wash now and makes for a really solid long loop. This trail was 100% unusable by bike up until a few months ago.
