        Minnesota has a long and proud history of outdoor recreation, with a substantial number of parks, forests, and wilderness areas. The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northeast MN is particularly renown, with visitors traveling from around the country to hike, paddle, and camp. However, plenty of recreation options are available across the state, with numerous state, county, and city parks.

        Many local trail-building and maintaining organizations exist throughout Minnesota. Mountain bike trails have grown explosively in the last few decades, and hiking and cross-country skiing have continued to grow as well.
